Jewelry Artist Margit Jäschke Challenges Conventional Boundaries in Exhibition at Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim:

“I don’t focus on ideas, concepts, materials, or processes. Instead, I try to be attuned to the right moment, much like the Greek god Kairos, who represents auspicious opportunities that must be seized.”

Greek God KairoS

Margit Jäschke, a master of the art world, has carved out a unique path for herself, blurring the lines between installation, painting, sculpture, and jewelry. With her emphasis on evocative details, Jäschke challenges conventional boundaries and creates pieces that resonate differently with each viewer.

In her own words, Jäschke prioritizes the timing of her pieces above all else, stating, “I don’t focus on ideas, concepts, materials, or processes. Instead, I try to be attuned to the right moment, much like the Greek god Kairos, who represents auspicious opportunities that must be seized.”

Jäschke, born in 1962, honed her skills at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, where she studied jewelry design in the 1980s. Today, she continues to work as an independent artist in Halle (Saale).

The exhibition of Jäschke’s work, which has been recognized with numerous awards over the past thirty years, will also be on display at the Museum of Arts and Crafts Hamburg from November 2023 to April 2024, after a successful showing at the GRASSI Museum in Leipzig. The exhibition will provide a comprehensive look at Jäschke’s multifaceted oeuvre.

A catalog of the artist’s work, published by Arnoldsche Art Publishers, is available for purchase at the museum shop for  EUR 42.

The Timeless Inspiration of Kairos, Greek God of Opportunity

Kairos, the elusive Greek god of opportunity and timing, has long been revered for his ability to bring good fortune to those who seize the moment. In ancient mythology, Kairos was depicted as a winged deity with a sharp mind and keen senses, always on the lookout for the right opportunity to strike. Despite his elusive nature, the faithful followers of Kairos believed that he could be summoned by those with the courage to act and the wisdom to recognize the right moment.

Today, the legacy of Kairos continues to inspire those seeking to make the most of their opportunities and live life to the fullest.
